A Kew-based recycler operating a facility in Somerville Rd, Brooklyn has been fined more than $8,000 by Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA).
City Circle Recycling failed to comply with a condition of an EPA Pollution Abatement Notice (PAN) requiring controls to prevent dust escaping beyond the facility boundaries.
“Our community in the west deserve better and rightly expect a facility such as this, to properly manage their dust and stop it impacting our local air quality, roads or stormwater drains,” said EPA Western Metropolitan Regional Manager Steve Lansdell.
“Our notice was clear about what City Circle needed to do, and it is really disappointing that this was not done. EPA’s inspecting officers saw dust being tracked off the site and along Jones Road which is why a fine of $8,261 was issued.
“This is a timely reminder for City Circle. EPA will continue to make sure they comply with their EPA notice and the remaining requirement to pave unsealed onsite roads.
“EPA has a bigger presence in the west with a new dedicated regional team and a new office opening in Sunshine later this year. It’s important that industry understands the community expects them not to pollute, and EPA is actively enforcing that expectation.”
Under the Environment Protection Act 1970 Crane Lift has 28 days to request a review of the decision.
