Kerbside recycling in Brimbank will resume as normal from Monday 23 September 2019.
Brimbank Council has entered into an interim agreement with SKM receivers, KordaMentha to have the community’s recycling sent to the recycling processing facility in Laverton North from Monday.
said Council had been working hard to get the City’s recycling back on track since July.
“Earlier today, Council signed an interim agreement with KordaMentha that will see our community’s kerbside recycling being properly sorted and processed at the recycling facility in Laverton North once again.
“We expect this interim agreement to remain in place until such time as a new owner takes over the recycling facility, at which point Council will need to negotiate another contract,” Cr Congreve said.
“We know this has been a frustrating and disappointing time for our community, and we thank residents for the understanding and patience they have demonstrated over the last couple of months.
“I would like to acknowledge the many community members who have made every effort to reduce the amount of waste and recycling they’ve been producing.
“Thank you also to those who took the time to make use of the paper and cardboard recycling drop off points that have been made available. Cardboard and paper will continue to be accepted at our Resource Recovery Centre in Keilor Park.
“Now that our recycling service is back on track, this is an opportune time to remind residents about how important it is to recycle right and to make sure no contamination make it into kerbside recycling bins,” Cr Congreve said.
Kerbside recycling bins are collected fortnightly in Brimbank. Recyclables that can be put into yellow-lid recycling bins include:
- Hard plastic bottles and containers including ice cream and margarine containers, soft drink, cordial, milk and detergent bottles
- Clean paper and cardboard (large items, such as boxes can be cut up into smaller pieces to fit)
- Milk and juice cartons
- Aluminium cans and steel cans
- Glass bottles and jars with their lids recycled separately.
Plastic bags cannot be placed in recycling bins.
