- Official launch of mobile electric vehicle (EV) maintenance hub celebrated today in Karratha
- Facility marks significant step towards reducing emissions and promoting sustainable energy solutions in the region
- Red Dog Renewables project supported by $250,000 Regional Economic Development grant
Regional Development Minister Don Punch has today celebrated the official opening of an innovative all-electric vehicle (EV) maintenance hub in Karratha.
The project by Red Dog Renewables (RDR) aims to reduce the Pilbara’s carbon footprint by connecting local businesses and visitors with EV servicing and charging solutions.
The mobile service hub was supported by the Cook Government with a $250,000 Regional Economic Development (RED) Grant 2023.
The part Aboriginal-owned business is currently supplying renewably charged rental electric vehicles to the Pilbara region, with a fleet of 14 EVs, including Australia’s first mine-spec EVs, and three fixed solar charging stations.
The RED grant has enabled RDR to extend its services across the Pilbara, including areas such as Tom Price and Port Hedland, ensuring that clients’ vehicles can be serviced locally.
This initiative not only creates jobs but also presents new skills and knowledge to the local workforce, fostering the growth of a green energy economy in the region.
The mobile solar charging station is operating in Gap Ridge Karratha, while planning for a permanent facility is scheduled for completion in 2025.
