JOINT STATEMENT
  • Redland Hospital set to received $150 million funding boost towards expansion
  • Investment will deliver a new Mental Health Facility – almost doubling bed capacity through an additional 20 beds
  • Government committed to delivering additional mental health services for local Redlands community

Additional mental health and wellbeing support will be available to the Redlands community thanks to support from the Palaszczuk Government.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk joined Minister for Health and Mental Health Shannon Fentiman and local MPs to announce $150 million within the upcoming State Budget for a new Mental Health Facility for the Redland Hospital.

The Hospital’s existing mental health building rebuilt with its capacity increased by 20 beds to meet growing community needs for improved mental health services, bringing the total number of beds in the unit to 43.

The expansion forms part of a staged capacity increase at Redlands Hospital – building on the significant investments made by the Government as part of the Queensland Health and Hospitals Plan.

Demolition of the existing mental health building after the new facility is built is an important enabler in the Redlands Hospital master plan.

It will free up critical land on the hospital site, making way for the Stage 2 hospital expansion.

The $62 million Stage 1 Expansion will deliver 37 additional beds and a new Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a $25 million modular expansion is delivering 28 new beds.

A multi-level car park also opened this year, significantly increased car parking capacity for patients, visitors and staff by more than 1000 undercover parking spaces.

The $150 million investment is supported by the Palaszczuk Government’s mental health payroll tax levy.

As well as these projects, the Redlands community will also be able to access healthcare services at the new Redlands Satellite Hospital as part of the $377 million Satellite Hospitals Program.
