REDs boost for Goldfields-Esperance businesses

  • Four Goldfields-Esperance projects share in $582,000 Regional Economic Development (RED) Grant funding
  • McGowan Government’s RED Grants to help local businesses expand and diversify
  • Four Goldfields-Esperance projects will receive funding to expand and diversify business operations under round five of the McGowan Government’s Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants.

    The RED Grants program is a McGowan Government initiative, investing $45.8 million over eight years in locally-driven projects to stimulate economic diversity in the regions.

    Round five of the Goldfields-Esperance RED Grants will support four Goldfields-Esperance projects to deliver training, boost production, and support tourism in the region.

    Judumul Advisory Aboriginal Corporation will receive a $113,000 grant to purchase specialised equipment and training to enable local Aboriginal artists to design and create wearable art products.

    Target Mining Resources Pty Ltd secured $140,000 to establish a Core Processing Training Centre, which will support skilled and unskilled migrant workers to gain accredited industry training and Australian mining experience.

    Esperance business Bread Local will receive $129,000 to purchase essential equipment and expand their production capacity to become a multi-functional facility operating as a café, event venue, retailer, and tourism destination.

     

    The Shire of Wiluna will use its $200,000 grant for their Wiluna Caravan Park project, which will deliver a new tourism asset for the town and provide visitors a place to stay while exploring the ‘edge of the desert’. 

    The successful recipients were announced at the Judumul Art Gallery located in the historic Coolgardie Post Office building.

    As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

    “Round five of the RED Grants program will fund a range of projects to increase productivity and business capacity, as well as boosting tourism opportunities and industry-based training.

    “The funding will be used to purchase key equipment and infrastructure to deliver new jobs, industry diversification, and skills development.

    “The RED Grants continue to support local businesses and organisations to develop, grow and diversify to better service regional communities”.

    As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:

    “Over the past five years, the McGowan Government has demonstrated its ongoing commitment and support to regional businesses through the RED Grants program.

    “I’m thrilled to see the diversity of these fantastic projects announced today and look forward to seeing them prosper and grow through this funding.”

Funding will support the purchase of specialised core processing equipment and facility infrastructure to establish a new operating base for the business.$140,000
    Shire of WilunaWiluna Caravan Park: Funding will support a new Caravan Park with the installation of an amenities block and camp kitchen to compliment the first stage of the project, which includes caravan parking bays, roads, and turning points.$200,000
    The Trustee for the Ned Baker Family Trust t/a Bread LocalPowering the Future of Bread Local: Funding will support the expansion of this niche Esperance bakery. The project includes the installation of ablution facilities for a restaurant/café, a new commercial oven, and power upgrades which will enable increased production, extended trading hours, and growth in wholesale supply.$129,000
