Five Goldfields-Esperance projects will receive funding to expand and diversify business operations under round four of the McGowan Government’s Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants.
The RED Grants program is a McGowan Government initiative investing $40.8 million over seven years in locally-driven projects to stimulate economic diversity in the regions.
Round four of the Goldfields-Esperance RED Grants will support five Goldfields-Esperance projects to deliver training, boost production and access new markets.
Australian Potash Limited will receive a $250,000 grant to establish the Laverton Training Centre to provide vocational training programs and employment pathways for local Aboriginal people in the Northern Goldfields.
Seas It All Pty Ltd will receive $200,000 to create two fully accessible, customised holiday apartments to cater for the growing accessible tourism market in Esperance.
Goldfields Machining, a Kalgoorlie-Boulder based machining business, secured $75,000 to purchase a hydraulic cylinder repair bench to enable on-site diagnostic and repair services on large-scale cylinders, which previously required transportation to Perth.
Yirri Grove Olive Oil in Esperance will boost their paddock-to-plate visitor experience with a $60,000 grant to expand their production area, increase restaurant capacity and plant more olive trees to support future demand.
The Shire of Dundas, in partnership with Ngadju Traditional Owners and local mining companies, will use its $200,000 grant to establish a new timber industry, using waste timber from mine site clearing as a saleable product.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“Round four REDs in the Goldfields and Esperance are supporting local businesses diversify operations in the mining services, tourism and vocational training sectors.
“The Laverton Training Centre project is a fantastic example of government and industry working together to deliver training and genuine employment pathways for Aboriginal people.
“The RED Grants continue to support businesses to adapt and grow to accommodate increased demand both regionally and across Western Australia.”
As stated by Kalgoorlie MLA Ali Kent:
“It’s wonderful to be here with Minister MacTiernan and the Hon. Kyle McGinn MLC to announce the successful recipients of the latest round of RED Grants.
“Yet again, the McGowan Government is demonstrating its commitment and support to regional businesses and enterprises.
“I’m thrilled to see the diversity of these fantastic projects and look forward to seeing them prosper and grow through this funding.”
