The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes the significant support from the Federal Government to help ease congestion on our roads through the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative.
We have worked closely with the Federal Government over the past five years to secure hundreds of millions of dollars for infrastructure upgrades, and this is another example of that partnership producing results.
The Federal Government has committed $530 million to upgrade key freight corridors in Tasmania’s north west, as well as priority works along the Bass Highway and in particular our plan between Hobart and Sorell to better connect industry to markets and reduce congestion.
This will reduce travel time between Hobart and Sorell and the Southern Beaches, one of Tasmania’s fastest growing areas. The duplication of the Tasman Highway between Hobart and Sorell is a traffic solution needed to ensure the area keeps up with current and future demand.
The duplication will complement other works committed by the Hodgman Liberal Government including a Southern Sorell bypass that will connect the Arthur Highway to the Southern Beaches or Tasman Peninsula, and adding an extra lane in each direction to resolve the bottleneck at the Midway Point roundabout.
We will also widen the section of road between the Airport Roundabout and the first causeway near the Tasmania Golf Club, add overtaking lanes on the Arthur Highway near Ironstone Creek Rivulet, and upgrade the Hobart Airport Interchange.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government will continue to listen to the community and work with all levels of Government to get results. This long-term vision will improve the lives of all who commute between Hobart and Sorell and the surrounding areas that are continuing to grow.
These investments are crucial to the state’s growth and prosperity which will improve travel times and reduce congestion for all road users.
