The Australian and Queensland governments are seeking expressions of interest for new Members of the Reef 2050 Independent Expert Panel (IEP).
The IEP provides scientific and expert advice to Ministers and senior government decision-makers on the threats and challenges facing the Great Barrier Reef (GBR), the implementation of key strategies, such as the Reef 2050 Plan and Reef 2050 Water Quality Improvement Plan, as well as other matters, as requested.
The Panel is looking for new members to bolster its existing skills so that it is positioned to advise government on the big challenges and opportunities over the next five years. These include the 2025 review of the Reef 2050 Plan, the increasing threats from climate change, current and future research needs and communicating the actions and emerging scientific matters to technical and non-technical audiences.
This is a joint appointment by the Australian and Queensland Environment Ministers for a fixed term of five years from the date of appointment, anticipated to commence in September/October 2024, with the option for extension.
Location is flexible. Meetings are held in person (Brisbane) and online.
