Refresh for Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Learning Centre

Benalla Library

The Sir Edward Weary Dunlop Learning Centre promotes lifelong learning and literacy, through the delivery of a range of programs for adults and children in the Benalla Rural City Council.
The Benalla Library is a modern and welcoming community resource. Located on the foreshore of Lake Benalla, the library provides access to everything from books and magazines to movies, children’s storytime sessions, Wi-Fi, computers, photocopying and printing. Membership is free for Benalla Rural City Council residents.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions and changing opening hours, library staff have taken the opportunity to give the space a ‘refresh’ with an improved layout, furnishings and the creation of a special interactive children’s corner.
This new, vibrant look was made possible, due to a generous donation of $6,335 from The Friends of the Benalla Library Inc.
Geraldine McCorkell, President of The Friends of the Benalla Library said “Our enthusiastic group of volunteers have been operating since 2013, with profits we raise through The Redb4 Bookshop dedicated to enhancing community spaces like the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Centre.”
“We are passionate about creating a love of reading and learning for all in our community and assisting the library staff to acquire new books and materials. As a group, we are genuinely thrilled to see how our efforts have helped create improved reading and learning spaces for all library users,” Geraldine added.
Benalla Rural City Council Mayor, Danny Claridge said “The new spaces in the Benalla Library are a credit to our dedicated library staff and the tireless efforts of The Friends of Benalla Library volunteers. Our community is lucky to have such a visionary and committed group, working collaboratively with us to create an asset for all in our community.”
