The NSW Government is calling on community organisations to apply for the Multicultural NSW Stronger Together Project Grants 2024 on World Refugee Day, Tuesday 20 June 2023.
World Refugee Day acknowledges refugees’ strength and resilience, taking place during Refugee Week (Sunday 18 June to Saturday 24 June), the nation’s peak annual activity by the Refugee Council of Australia to celebrate the contributions made by refugees to Australian society.
The first Refugee Week was organised in Sydney in 1986 and it became a global celebration recognised by the United Nations in 2001 after 2 decades of lobbying by Australian advocates.
Since 2015, more than 35,000 refugees have arrived in NSW from countries including Ukraine, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Congo and Myanmar.
The Multicultural NSW Stronger Together Project Grants 2024 program aims to support grassroots projects that can make a lasting positive impact on social cohesion and meet a community need.
Project Grants funding ranges from $20,000 to $40,000 for activities to be delivered between 1 January to 31 December 2024.
Multicultural NSW will be running an online information session on the project grants program from 10.30am on Wednesday 28 June 2023. Applications close at 3pm on Friday 7 July 2023.
