Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services the Honourable Mark Ryan MP today joined Commissioner Katarina Carroll to officially open the new Biloela Police Station and to launch three police camper trailers.
The original Biloela Police Station, built in the early 1900s, was demolished and a new state-of-the-art facility was built on the same site at a cost of $4.95 million.
The new station currently accommodates 12 QPS members dedicated to the local division of Biloela and a further six officers providing specialist detective, intelligence and highway patrol functions as part of the Capricornia Police District resources.
Biloela Police Station is also a certified training centre for First Year Constables.
The three police camper trailers launched today will be used by officers across Queensland on deployment to events and operations in isolated areas across the state.
Commissioner Carroll said the new station and the camper trailers ensured the Service provided flexible policing responses across a range of situations.
“The new police station at Biloela provides a modern facility to support frontline policing at the local level and allows sufficient space for future growth,” Commissioner Carroll said.
“At the same time, the camper trailer initiative means police can deploy to a range of policing activities, be they planned operations or unplanned natural disasters, and be accommodated in comfort and safety when traditional accommodation is not available.
“I am sure this newly built station and the camper trailers will enable officers to continue the high standard and dedicated policing the local Biloela and broader Central Region communities have seen so far.”
Minister Ryan said the new police station was a welcome boost for policing in Biloela.
“Biloela Police Station has been designed with all the features and specifications needed for a modern policing facility, and comfortably accommodates the current staffing level with an eye to the future,” Minister Ryan said.
“It’s a great new asset for the Biloela Division and will enable officers to better serve their community as well as continue their important work training First Year Constables.
“I also look forward to seeing the benefits of the police camper trailers, which provide a robust and reliable solution for police officers deploying not just across the vast Central Region, but the entire state as needed.”
