Rehabilitation of Old Goombungee Road set to commence

A $815,000 rehabilitation of Old Goombungee Road will commence in November.

Located near Meringandan, the section of Goombungee Road between Griffins Road and Woolmer Road is in poor condition with extensive rutting and shape loss.

The road carries high volumes of traffic daily and is an important link between Meringandan and Toowoomba.

The Old Goombungee Road Rehabilitation project will be delivered by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) and undertaken in two stages. Works are expected to be completed early 2022.

TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Councillor Carol Taylor said once completed, the project will improve road quality and safety for motorists.

“The project will involve the installation of new culverts and reconstructing the pavement along a 1.35 kilometre section of Old Goombungee Road,” she said.

“Once the works are complete, this section of Old Goombungee Road will have a stronger and more durable road surface, and safer sight lines. New line markings and signage will also improve overall safety for road users.”

The Old Goombungee Road Rehabilitation project is being jointly funded by the Australian Government with a $500,000 contribution through its Roads to Recovery Program and the remaining $315,000 by Council.

“Council would not be able to deliver the volume of road works required across the Region without the financial assistance of the Australian and Queensland Governments and we’re very thankful for the funding support,” Cr Taylor said.
