Renewed appeal for information after disappearance of Maryam Hamka

Missing Persons Squad detectives have today renewed their appeal for information on the six month anniversary of the suspicious disappearance of Brunswick woman Maryam Hamka.

Maryam was reported missing by her family on 15 April, six months ago today.

Despite an intensive investigation by police, she is yet to be located.

Police have charged two men over the course of the investigation:

In August, a 41-year-old Brighton man was charged with one count of murder and remanded in custody.

Last month, a 26-year-old Richmond man was charged with assist offender (murder) and drug offences.

Maryam was last seen leaving a Woolworths store in Albert Street, Brunswick at 5.30pm on Saturday 10 April.

She is described as being 165cm tall, with a thin build and long black hair, brown eyes and an olive complexion.

She was last seen wearing a black dress and had told family she was intending to visit a friend in Brighton.

Photos of Maryam have been re-released. The CCTV image depicts Maryam at Woolworths on the day she was last seen.

Detectives are appealing to anyone with information regarding Maryam’s whereabouts to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential crime report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au

Quotes attributable to Detective Inspector Andrew Stamper, officer in charge Missing Persons Squad:

“Six months on from Maryam’s disappearance, we are again appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

“This has been an incredibly difficult time for Maryam’s family and we are hopeful that we may be able to find Maryam and give her family even a small amount of comfort that she’s been located.

“Our investigators are as committed as ever, and we will continue to follow up all avenues of enquiry in locating Maryam.

“If there is anyone out there with information about Maryam’s disappearance who is yet to speak to police, then I am again appealing for them to come forward and make contact with investigators.”
