Renewed skate park opens at Jacobs Well

The revamped Jacobs Well skate park has opened just in time for school holiday action.

Acting Mayor Donna Gates officially opened the new park today, with local skateboarders in attendance.

“This $250,000 facility is an investment in an active lifestyle, and gives up-and-coming skateboarders a home to improve their skills,” she said.

“With skateboarding making its Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020, let’s hope this park will help to inspire the next generation!”

The concrete skate park includes a four foot bowl with a linked spine jump, and a small table top jump section suitable for BMX riders, scooters and skateboarders.

A street area section is also included with a flat bar, manual pad and three foot quarter pipe, suitable for beginners.

Cr Gates, who contributed $100,000 from her divisional funds towards the project, said she had consulted with the community on the design of the park.

“We’ve worked closely with locals and incorporated their feedback into a number of the design elements,” she said.

“And with it reopened just in time for the school holidays, I’m expecting to see the park get plenty of use!”

The Gold Coast has the highest number of skate and BMX parks per capita than any other city in Australia, with a total of 18.
