Do you run a small business or are thinking of starting one?
Businesses and sole traders are invited to submit an expression of interest to become a temporary tenant in one of the Hargreaves Mall lanterns, which provide the perfect opportunity to showcase goods or services or host pop up events.
The lanterns have sinks, a small bench space, access to power and water, and there is room for a fridge (to be supplied by the City of Greater Bendigo). Both lanterns have a servery window that opens onto the Mall and tenants can also make use of the immediate outside area under awnings to showcase their goods or services or host events.
Both lanterns are available now to rent for free for up to six months.
City of Greater Bendigo Director Strategy and Growth Rachel Lee said now was the perfect time to take up a short-term tenancy.
“This is a great opportunity for micro-retailers, creatives, start-ups, home-based or online ventures to take the leap into a shop front without the risk of locking themselves into a long term lease and the many costs that come with that. Future tenants can try something new and still be in the position to put money back into their business,” Ms Lee said.
“The next six months will bring warmer weather, the busy Christmas trading period, and the City of Greater Bendigo is about to re-fresh the centre of the Mall with new landscaping and unveil new artwork for the screens attached to the lanterns.
“Activating the lanterns with small businesses will also complement existing businesses in the city centre, and further drive foot traffic into the Mall.”
Expressions of interest are open now. Applicants need to provide their ABN details, suggested months of tenure (tenants can use a lantern for less than six months, if they wish), suggested days and operating hours, and a description of their business and activities they will conduct.
*Free rent is offered for a period of up to six months.
