The State Government has confirmed that the Reserve Road car park (accessed via Inglesby Road), near Camberwell Primary School and Council buildings, will be closed from 31 December 2022. Once closed, it will no longer be available as a car park.
Impact of car park closure
The closure will impact teachers, Council employees and visitors who currently use the car park.
If you use the car park to access nearby services such as the Camberwell Library, Camberwell Primary School or Council offices, please consider using nearby street parking and public car parks after this date.
We will monitor the impacts of this closure on parking in the surrounding area and consider implementing any changes to parking restrictions if required.
Why the car park is closing
You may be aware the State Government has decided to convert the Reserve Road public car park area into a playground and play space for Camberwell Primary School.
The Reserve Road car park is on Crown land for which Council has been the committee of management; however, the land is not owned by Council.
The Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) has confirmed Camberwell Primary School is supportive of community use of this area outside school hours.
Next stages for redevelopment
- We are currently waiting for the VSBA to release their final concept design for the school playground area which is proposed.
- Final details for community access are still to be confirmed.
- It is believed construction works to redevelop the site will commence sometime in early 2023.
- It is understood that the State Government does not plan to consult with Council or the wider community on the plans for this redevelopment.
