Residents encouraged to dive into free swim season at Memorial Baths

Entry to the popular Lismore Memorial Baths will be free from 12 March for the rest of this season after Councillors voted to waive entry fees to encourage people to make use of the facility after it was repaired from the 2022 natural disaster.

Recognising the pivotal role of the Baths in promoting well-being and community engagement, Council is committed to encouraging increased usage of this facility.

Councillor Andrew Gordon, who proposed the motion, said at a time of rising costs of living, the community would benefit from the move.

“The decision to waive entry costs for the Lismore Memorial Baths demonstrates our commitment to fostering a healthier and more connected community,” he said.

“By removing financial barriers, we’re opening the doors for all residents to enjoy the benefits of this wonderful facility.”

After the meeting, Lismore City Mayor Steve Krieg said the Baths “are undeniably one of our community’s greatest assets.”

“Through this initiative, we have a unique opportunity to not only promote health and fitness but also to strengthen the bond between our residents and this invaluable resource.

“Investing in initiatives like this aligns with our vision for a vibrant and thriving Lismore. It’s about more than just swimming; it’s about investing in the well-being of our residents and creating opportunities for them to lead healthier lives.”

The decision to waive fees comes with a projected cost of $56,400, covering the period from 12 March to 28 April.

Council has identified funding options to fulfil this commitment.

It is anticipated Council will receive sufficient interest revenue to cover the costs, as outlined in the March Quarterly Budget Review Statement.

Residents within the Lismore and neighbouring Local Government Areas are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to experience the benefits of the Lismore Memorial Baths firsthand. Whether it’s for leisurely swims, fitness training, or simply enjoying time with family and friends, the Baths are open and accessible to all.
