Residents Invited To Show Us Your Action Day

Griffith Pioneer Park Museum will hold a photography competition for visitors at their annual Action Day event on Friday 29 March 2024.

Griffith Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran said each year thousands of people attend Action Day on Good Friday.

“We’re hoping they’ll share their favourite photographs,” Councillor Curran said.

“We know that many memories are made on this eventful day, so please show us your highlights.”

Photographs will be exhibited later this year and a voting process will identify winners and runners-up in the Open and Under-18 categories.

Since 1971 Griffith Pioneer Park Museum has celebrated Good Friday with activities that reflect the diverse heritage of the region.

Historic floorboards will creak as visitors step back in time and explore homesteads like Fairview Cottage and Griffith’s first hospital, as well as the replica of Bagtown.

Machinery comes to life in the Steam Shed and visitors have a chance to sound the whistle heard throughout the Park.

Skills and trades from yesteryear like blacksmithing are demonstrated alongside contemporary activities, including an exhibition by Pioneer Park Museum’s resident arts group.

Various organisations from the local community invest their time in ensuring that families can enjoy a meal together in front of music and dance performances.

This includes the Italian Museum Committee making pizza and pasta, the Lions Club serving fish and chips, as well as the Sikh community offering vegetarian dishes in recent years.

“Easter is often when the friends and family of Griffith come to visit, so Action Day has been a feature of the calendar and blessed with good weather.

“It makes taking a great photo easy,” said Cr Curran. “Why keep it to yourself? Send in your photos from Pioneer Park Museum on its big day of the year and share them with the community.”

Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up thanks to sponsorship from Red Earth Ecology.
