A man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into two homes and threatening the occupants at knifepoint in Auburn overnight.
The first incident occurred about 10.40pm (Saturday 2 May 2020), when a 29-year-old man entered his home unit in Park Road and disturbed an intruder inside.
He was allegedly threatened by the intruder and held for about 20 minutes before he was forced into a bathroom and the man left by the balcony.
The resident then alerted officers from Auburn Police Area Command who established a perimeter and began searching for the man.
About 11pm, police allege the same man walked into a house on Mary Street and pointed a knife at one of the residents in a bedroom. The man walked into the kitchen then out the back door and police were called.
The Police helicopter was called to assist and saw a man hiding in a neighbouring backyard.
A 39-year-old man was arrested and a number of items – alleged to have been stolen – recovered. A knife was also seized.
The man was taken to Auburn Police Station where he has been charged with four offences:
• Aggravated break and enter and commit a serious indictable offence – deprive liberty
• Aggravated break and enter and commit a serious indictable offence – armed
• Enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, and
• Possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs.
The man, from Oatlands, has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court later today (Sunday 3 May 2020).
