This Emergency Ready Week, from 18-24 September, Hornsby Shire Council is encouraging residents to take charge of their emergency preparedness by embracing the Australian Red Cross’ Get Prepared app, an innovative tool enabling individuals to navigate times of crisis efficiently and allowing them to recover swiftly and effectively.
The free, easy-to-use app is designed to help residents make important decisions ahead of time, by creating a personal emergency plan. Individuals can establish a network of key support contacts, add vital information into one place, set up simple survival checklists and emergency actions, as well as share their emergency plan with others.
Hornsby Shire Mayor, Philip Ruddock has stressed the importance of proactive disaster preparation.
“The Shire area has weathered numerous acute emergencies over recent years, including devastating floods and bushfires. These traumatic events act as a significant reminder that it is paramount to ensure we are ready to act, and that we all have a plan of attack for potential future disasters,” said Mayor Ruddock.
“It’s important to take practical steps to help take care and protect yourself and your loved ones should disaster strike. Prepare a survival kit with anything you would need in time of need, and create a personal emergency plan using the Get Prepared app.”
The Get Prepared app is co-created by the Australian Red Cross and NRMA Insurance.
