The main changes are summarised below.
Component | Changes |
Assessment Scale | The current 9-point scale has been reduced to a 5-point scale. The scale focuses on the level of senior clinician input and the trainee’s observed performance ‘on this occasion’ rather than predicting future performance. Ratings on the new forms are anchored at the top end as being ‘at junior FACEM level’. TPR panels will review EM-WBAs with this in mind. E.g. a trainee who has just begun Early Phase Advanced Training is generally expected to receive ratings towards the lower end of the scale, but a trainee at the end of Late Phase Advanced Training should be performing towards the top end of the scale in most assessments. |
Assessment Scale for CbD | A specific scale has been introduced for the CbD. There are now two different sections – one to assess the management of the case, and one to assess the trainee’s reflection on the case and evaluation of the issues raised. Trainees are encouraged to present and discuss cases that provide meaningful learning opportunities. |
Criteria Assessed | There has been no change to the criteria assessed. Additional prompts are now visible. |
Patient type | Trainees can now specify whether the case is adult or paediatric. A paediatric patient means a patient who has not yet reached their 16th birthday (i.e. aged up to 15 years and 364 days). |
Presentation Categories | The presentation categories have been revised and the sub-categories removed. |
Complexity | There is no change to the complexity calculator. The complexity rating removed from DOPS and the Shift Report – you can still provide comments about the case or shift. |
Mandatory comments | The number of mandatory comment boxes have been reduced. |
