The Marshall Government’s vision for a thriving health precinct at the revitalised Repat are coming to fruition with the finalisation of plans for the $60 million second phase of the redevelopment.
Works on the Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation facilities, exercise physiology and sports gymnasium, Veterans’ Wellbeing Centre and Town Square will commence soon.
Premier Steven Marshall said the second stage of works will deliver outstanding medical facilities and create jobs for South Australians in the middle of the coronavirus downturn.
“We are delivering on our commitment to create a thriving health precinct at the Repat site, with the State Government investing more than $100 million in the first two stages of development,” said Premier Marshall.
“This $60 million investment will help us deliver on our commitment to deliver world class health services for South Australians and create jobs.
The landmark project reached a milestone today as it was approved by the Public Works Committee.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Stephen Wade said the revitalised Repat site will provide a significant boost to the state’s health system and provide a modern and contemporary environment to encourage health and wellbeing.
“As we commence Phase two, works are progressing well at the Repat with the redevelopment of Ward 18 and Ward 20 as new homes for specialised dementia care services nearing completion, and demolition works making way for the new HammondCare dementia care facility,” said Minister Wade.
“The establishment of a Town Square will provide a focal point to ensure that all services at the Repat are connected through a central hub, providing spaces for patients to interact with their families and carers in a park-like environment. Repat has long been treasured as a hospital in a park.
“The square includes a café, activity hub and inclusive playground in open green spaces.
“The new purpose built 48-bed Brain Injury and Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation facility will provide a modern environment for a patient and family centred service, with the exercise physiology and sports gymnasium designed specifically to complement rehabilitation services.
“A new Veterans’ Wellbeing Centre will ensure veterans maintain a strong link with the site through a dedicated space which will further meet their needs and the needs of their families.
“We are working extremely hard to ensure we are delivering the best possible facilities for the community to utilise both for now and into the future.”
The new $60 million investment comes as the redevelopment of Wards 18 and 20 near completion, as do our dedicated COVID-19 facilities in Wards 5-8.
“The Repat was a key pillar of care within the southern community for over 75 years and through our work, we will ensure it continues to play a significant role in the health care needs of South Australians now and into the future,” Minister Wade said.
