State Highway Patrol Solo Unit officers, as part of Operation Furlong, have impounded a motorcycle after it was detected allegedly doubling the speed limit on the Eastern Freeway on Saturday.
Officers detected a red Ducati allegedly travelling at 209km/h in a 100km/h speed zone, outbound near the Chandler Highway exit about 9.25am.
The Ducati was intercepted by police and the rider, a 26-year-old man from Sunshine, had his motorcycle impounded for 30 days at a cost of $966.50.
He is expected to be charged on summons with speed dangerous, exceeding speed limit and other traffic related offences.
This intercept forms part of Operation Furlong, a statewide road policing operation coinciding with the Melbourne Cup long weekend in Victoria.
Police will be highly visible and enforcing across the state’s roads in an effort to drive down road trauma.
Operation Furlong runs until 11:59pm Tuesday 5 November 2024.
