Commercial development opportunities along the Swan Hill Riverfront are one step closer to becoming reality, following the sale of the GrainCorp site on Monash Drive.
GrainCorp and their contractors, together with Swan Hill Rural City Council, have agreed on a works schedule for clearing the site to commence this week, leaving one silo and the shed available for re-purposing.
Council’s Acting CEO, Rosanne Kava, said clearing the former GrainCorp site within the Swan Hill Riverfront Precinct would provide a long awaited opportunity to activate a key part of the riverfront precinct.
“It is anticipated that this important step will assist in attracting new and varied commercial investment opportunities, shaping a strong, diversified and sustainable regional economy for our region,” Ms Kava said.
The GrainCorp site was first identified as a key location for future development by the community during the consultation of the 2013 Swan Hill Riverfront Masterplan.
“We had over 2000 community members participate in the consultation and it was clear the community had a great vision for the site – its location and ability to connect to the CBD, opportunity for commercial development to support the activation of the riverfront and the economic benefits it will bring to the region,” Ms Kava said.
Further work on opportunities to best utilise the site will proceed over the coming months.
