Riverway Movie Nights returns tonight

Council’s always popular Riverway Movie Nights returns this Friday (21 April) at 6:30pm with a free screening of Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon.

These family-friendly events run on the third Friday of every month and feature an open-air cinema under the stars as well as food trucks and a coffee van at Riverway Oval.

Families can pack a blanket and head down to Riverway to catch this delightful animated film that covers the epic journey of young hero Ainbo and her Spirit Guides – Dillo the armadillo and Vaca the tapir – who embark on a quest to save their home in the spectacular Amazon Rainforest.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill invited everyone to come and enjoy this free outdoor event with family and friends.

“Bring your popcorn, picnic blankets or towels and treats, and enjoy a relaxed movie night with family and friends,” Cr Hill said.

“The weather is perfect to huddle up with the family on a picnic blanket under the stars and enjoy a movie night to kick off the weekend.

“This free event is really well supported by young people in Townsville and through this and other Council-run events and initiatives the youth of our city have an opportunity to connect with the wider community.”

Council is pleased to present this event, with free entry for everyone and food and drinks available from food trucks at the oval.

Over the past 12 months Council has delivered over 60 inclusive events for community, including events like the seniors’ lunches, Anzac Day, NAFA, Carols by Candlelight and Townsville Eats, while working to attract a range of additional events for Townsville residents.
