Motorists moving around the Merimbula CBD will soon be enjoying improved road surfaces, with Council set to undertake some major upgrades in the coming weeks.
Council’s Acting Manager of Works and Assets, Gary Louie said the stabilisation program will be conducted in two stages and comes after major developments over the past couple of years, especially around the Woolworths and Aldi sites on Main Street.
“Works will commence on Main Street, between Market Street and Sapphire Coast Drive, from Tuesday 19 October. Traffic passing through the site will be kept to a minimum with a detour via the roundabout on Merimbula Drive,” Mr Louie said.
“The back entry into Woolworths and Club Sapphire will not be impacted, however the entrances on Main Street may be closed at times throughout the works.
“Weather permitting, this work will run through to Saturday 30 October. From there we will move around the corner and focus on Sapphire Coast Drive, between Merimbula Drive and Kalinda Street for a further two weeks.
“While we understand this work will inconvenience some people, these important upgrades will improve driveability, reduce ongoing maintenance requirements and extend the life of the road assets overall.”
A letterbox drop has been undertaken to notify all property owners, businesses and tenants within the work zones. Emergency services, bus companies and waste services have also been informed.
