The nation’s peak motoring body, the Australian Automobile Association (AAA), has congratulated two of Australia’s leading road safety, motoring and mobility advocates, Elizabeth Perry and Ian Gillespie, on being awarded Membership of the Order of Australia as a part of today’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.
Elizabeth Perry has given over 11 years service to road safety and motoring issues and is currently President of the AAA and also former Chairman of South Australia’s RAA, after joining its Board in 2009.
Ian Gillespie served on the board of the AAA for 13 years while he was also Group CEO of Queensland’s RACQ, until his retirement last year.
AAA Chairman, Ian Stone, said: “Elizabeth and Ian have collectively dedicated almost a quarter of a century to issues of great importance to our members, along with the advancement of the broader motoring and mobility agenda.
“Both also possess an unrelenting dedication to community service that goes far beyond the road safety and motoring spheres, and it is wonderful to see this recognised today.”
At an international level, Ms Perry is a World Council member of the Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) while Mr Gillespie is the Chair of the Global Mobility Alliance (GMA) and has also had previous involvement with the FIA.
Together both Ms Perry and Mr Gillespie have played a leading role in the pursuit of road safety and mobility policies on behalf of the eight million Australians who are members of the AAA’s affiliated clubs: the NRMA, RACV, RACQ, RAA, RAC, RACT and AANT.
“Their work and advocacy hasn’t only delivered benefits for members and road users across Australia, but it has helped save the lives of countless Australians and visitors to our country,” Mr Stone said.
“That’s a legacy well deserving of the Queen’s Birthday Honours received”.
