More than 800 roadside breath tests were rolled out in an overnight road safety blitz on the Inner City Bypass through Kelvin Grove, resulting in 10 drink drivers and 5 drug drivers.
Officers from Brisbane City Highway Patrol, Brisbane City and Fortitude Valley stations and Brisbane City Tactical Crime Squad also issued three traffic infringement notices (TINs), conducted 8 roadside drug tests as well as completed a number of vehicle inspections as part of Operation Mistletoe.
A Mobile Police Facility was also deployed.
A 42-year-old Milton man was issued a notice to appear for offence of driving while relevant drug is present in blood or saliva, possess utensils and unlawful possession of weapons category A, B or M (knuckle dusters). He is due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 29. QP2302090422 refers.
A 35-year-old McDowall man was issued a notice to appear for drink driving, after he allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test. He was taken to the Mobile Police Beat where he returned a specimen of breath indicating 0.15 blood alcohol content (BAC). His licence was immediately suspended. He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 19, 2024. QP2302091293 refers.
A 38-year-old Clayfield man was issued a notice to appear for drink driving after he allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test. He was taken to the Mobile Police Beat where he returned a specimen of breath indicating 0.132 blood alcohol content (BAC). His licence was immediately suspended. He is due to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 18, 2023. QP2302091197 refers.
A 38-year-old Bracken Ridge man was issued a notice to appear for drink and drug driving, after he allegedly returned a positive roadside breath test and roadside drug test. He was taken to the Mobile Police Beat for further breath and saliva analysis where he provided a specimen of breath indicating 0.101 blood alcohol content and a specimen of saliva containing the presence of a relevant drug.
His licence was immediately suspended, and he is due to appear before the Brisbane Magistrates Court on January 9. QP2302091059 and QP2302091162 refer.
Acting Superintendent Peter Flanders said police would be out in full force this festive period to keep the community safe.
“The Christmas holidays are now in full swing, and we know people are heading to Christmas parties and other celebrations. We want the community to enjoy the holidays but remember to do so safely.”
“We’re still seeing far too many people having drinks, taking drugs and then getting behind the wheel. That’s why police are conducting these operations, to stop this dangerous behaviour.”
“If you get behind the wheel under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or other substances, you not only put yourself at risk of serious injury or death but also other road users.
“If you drink drive or drug drive, you will be charged, you will lose your licence and you will go before a court.”
