Dedicated road policing by NT Police on Territory roads has seen road related fatalities drop by more than fifty percent compared to this time last year.
Assistant Commissioner Narelle Beer said the significant reduction was a result of great work achieved by all members focussing on road safety.
“This reduction in the road toll translates to lives being saved,” Assistant Commissioner Beer said.
“The introduction of the Road Policing Command and the increased commitment from all NT Police members to hold motorists accountable for their behaviour on our roads is having a significant impact.
“This impact has resulted in the reduction of the road toll by more than 50 per cent compared to the same time last year.
“We can expect to see further results with the implementation of the Territory Relief Pool contributing to our road safety policing.”
Northern Territory Police urge all road users to remember that road safety is everyone’s business, especially during the coming Easter break.
NT Police will continue to conduct road side testing and provide visible policing focussing on unsafe and dangerous driver behaviour.
“Let’s all work together so we can make 2019 the lowest NT road toll on record.”
