Road upgrades made possible

Bass Coast Shire Council has successfully secured more than $1.8 million for two key road upgrade projects.

The funding has been allocated as part of the Regional Roads Victoria’s Fixing Country Roads program.

From the funding, $1 million will go towards drainage and safety improvements along a 600 metre section of Loch-Wonthaggi Road. A further $500,000 in renewal funding will be provided by Council for this project, which will see new box culverts installed along the Powlett River flood plain between Heslops Road and West Creek Road.

This section of road will also be raised 30 centimetres, to reduce the frequency of road closures due to flooding and improve the ride quality for road users. These works are a continuation of the previous upgrades to this road, which were completed in 2017.

The remaining $800,000 will be used to upgrade a four kilometre section of Grantville-Glen Alvie Road. The $1.2 million project will also include $400,000 in renewal funding from Council. This project will include upgrades to improve the condition of the road for the benefit of all users, including heavy vehicles. The works will involve reconstruction and widening of the pavement and improved alignment through the corners.
