Seven Mile Beach Road at Broken Head will be closed for approximately five days from 7 – 11 December 2020 while a section of the road is being sealed.
Access will be maintained for residents although there may be short delays. Emergency vehicle access will be available at all times.
Council is sealing the first 700m of Seven Mile Beach Road to the Kings Beach carpark as a way of controlling dust which is affecting some residents, as well as having an impact on native vegetation and wildlife.
“Council received $336,895 from the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads program,” to do this work and we are very pleased to be able to get it done before Christmas and the busy summer holidays,” Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said.
“This road is the only public vehicle access to a number of areas in the Broken Head Nature Reserve and as the area gets more and more popular, so too do the number of cars using this narrow, dirt road and this is taking a toll on the sensitive natural environment as well as local residents,” he said.
As part of the project Council is also doing drainage maintenance works and line marking along the road.
Separate to the sealing of the first section of Seven Mile Beach Road, Council is also looking at parking and traffic management options for the Broken Head area with information and a survey to be launched on the Your Say Byron Shire shortly.
