Road works – Pocket Road

The-Pocket-Rd-newly-rebuilt-section

With the exception of line markings and the installation of a new guardrail, work on the reconstruction of approximately 1.2km of The Pocket Road near Main Arm is finished.

The old road was in a poor state, patched many times over the years.

Council has completely rebuilt a section of the road and widened it to make it safer for drivers.

Project Engineer, Kirk Weallans, said it was a challenging project with this section of The Pocket Road home to some threatened and endangered species, creeks and unstable soils under the road base.

“One major challenge was minimising the impact of the road work on a mature Blue Quandong Fig which is about 23m tall,” Mr Weallans said.

“Feedback from the local residents when we were building the road was very positive because that section of road really was in a state of disrepair”.

“We will be going out to do a final seal of the road early this year and then we will do the line-marking,” he said.

Council will be continuing the long-term repair of an additional section of The Pocket Road in 2020/21.
