Roadside Firewood Collection season open until June 30

The Autumn season runs from March 1 to June 30 when community members are permitted to collect firewood on Council-managed roads, with a permit.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Laura Binks says its important community members ensure they obtain a permit and only collect within the designated timeframe.

“Dead and fallen timber are an important habitat for our native flora and fauna,” Cr Binks says.

“This means that firewood that is collected must only be used for domestic purposes and there is also a category of roads that people are permitted to collect the wood from.

“These are referred to as medium conservation roadsides and there are many located throughout the municipality.”

Cr Binks said Council’s Customer Service staff can assist community members in accessing their Roadside Firewood Collection permit at a cost of $11 per cubic metre.

“Our Customer Service team can also help you determine which roadsides are suitable.”

Cr Binks said it was important to remember that firewood collection was not permitted on any roads managed by VicRoads.
