Townsville City Council is supporting a free community concert tomorrow, with singer-songwriter and multiple Grammy winner Rob Thomas performing.
The solo artist and Matchbox Twenty front man will perform at Queens Gardens from 5.45pm. Live entertainment starts from 5pm, with homegrown acts such as Jade Holland.
Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said Council was proud to support the free community concert along with Triple M.
“This will be a very popular event and a real treat for anyone who is a fan of Rob Thomas and Matchbox Twenty,” Cr Hill said.
“Council is very proud to support such a great community event that won’t cost residents anything to attend.”
Townsville Local Recovery and Resilience Group Chair Deputy Mayor Les Walker encouraged anyone who was impacted by the unprecedented monsoon to head down to Queens Gardens for the concert.
“These free community events are really important to bring locals together and provide some relief for residents who are still recovering from the impacts of the monsoon,” Cr Walker said.
Local Councillor Ann-Maree Greaney said Queens Gardens was a spectacular location for music and entertainment events.
“Queens Gardens is one of the most beautiful public parks in our city and it will be the perfect location to bring the community together to acknowledge the huge recovery efforts that have already taken place,” Cr Greaney said.
Triple M Marketing and Promotions Manager Alix Harrington said Triple M is excited to be able to bring the Triple M Rob Thomas Garage Session to the Townsville community.
“The community has shown incredible resilience of late and we’re proud to partner with Townsville City Council and give back to them,” Ms Harrington said.
Food trucks, a bar and amusements for kids will be available in Queens Gardens.
The concert is being held by Triple M with support from Townsville City Council.
