The Labor Party has always supported a Tasmanian AFL and AFLW team.
We all know a Tassie team is richly deserved and should’ve been granted with no stadium attached.
But what should’ve been a unifying moment for Tasmania has been ruined by Jeremy Rockliff’s reckless decision to write a blank cheque for a stadium we don’t need.
Now, the Liberals are in such disarray over the stadium their own members are leaving the party.
It’s clear the stadium will end up costing Tasmania more than $1 billion – with annual interest repayments of $50 million.
That’s money that could be used to pay for 500 nurses to help our neglected health system – every year.
Or 500 teachers to give our children the best start in life – every year.
It’s completely the wrong priority and Tasmanian Labor will continue to stand up for our state and to stand against the stadium.
