Today the Chief of the Royal Australian Navy, Vice Admiral Mark Hammond, AM, RAN, was proud to open the Navy’s gangways, launching Navy Week 2023.
Over the next seven days, events will be held in every State and Territory to showcase Navy’s importance to the Australian way of life. The Navy will continue to celebrate its tradition and heritage through ceremonial sunsets and we encourage all to come along to fleet base open days, sporting events, capability demonstrations and community concerts. The week will conclude on 1 March with Navy celebrating its 122nd birthday.
“Navy Week is an excellent opportunity for our people who serve, their families and the broader Australian community to come together and recognise the critical role our Navy plays in safeguarding the prosperity of our nation, on and under the sea,” Vice Admiral Mark Hammond said.
“It’s really an exciting time to serve in the Royal Australian Navy and Navy Week is a great way to learn about our work and understand why the Navy is important to the Australian way of life.”
“Our Navy protects Australia’s trade routes, its shipping, and our marine resources to secure Australia’s ongoing economic prosperity and national security – It is the essence of diplomacy, deterrence, and defence.”
Admiral Hammond says that Navy’s advanced capabilities require great Australians committed to keeping the nation safe.”
“Our people are our greatest asset. Dedicated, trained, outstanding Australians committed to Navy’s role are our competitive edge. Without our people and the support of their families none of our work would be possible.”
‘It’s a real privilege to welcome the community to meet our people who serve and inspire me every day. Come and see firsthand the work our people do.”
