Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide Resumes Today in Canberra

The Royal Commission into Defence and Veteran Suicide will resume in Canberra today.

The hearing, to be held at the Canberra Rex Hotel, will include witnesses from Defence and the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, ex-service organisations and people with lived experience of suicide and suicide behaviours.

The inquiry will hear evidence about culture, claims processing, support for families of serving and ex-serving personnel and transition to civilian life.

The hearing will be open to the public and those wishing to attend in person are . Attendees will also need to provide proof of vaccination.

The Royal Commission has so far received around 1,350 written submissions from individuals and organisations and 300 requests for private sessions.

The Royal Commission will release an interim report by 11 August, which will focus on issues requiring urgent or immediate action.
