Royal Commission to examine multi-jurisdiction response

The Royal Commission into ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Natural Disaster Arrangements will continue its hearings next week from Wednesday, 15 July to Friday, 17 July 2020.

The Commission will hear from the commissioners of emergency services agencies in all states and territories about how their emergency management sectors prepare for, and respond to, natural disasters.

In particular, the hearing will explore how state and territory emergency management sectors would operate during hypothetical future disasters, having learned the lessons of the 2019-2020 bushfire season.

As part of their evidence, the witnesses will also be asked to share their jurisdictions’ experiences during the 2019-2020 bushfire season.

The hearings will focus on how and when state and territory emergency management sectors would seek interstate, Commonwealth and international assistance to combat natural disasters in the future.
