Rushworth streetscape project update: Campaspe Shire

Rushworth

Streetscape works currently underway on the eastern side of High Street, Rushworth will be completed prior to Christmas despite some unforeseen additional works now required.

Campaspe Shire General Manager Infrastructure, Jason Deller said that while undertaking footpath works, it was identified that the Telstra assets within the construction zone needed to be lowered. This requirement was previously unknown and the additional works have significantly impacted the original work program.

“I would like to thank the Rushworth community for their patience while these necessary streetscape works have been taking place this year,” Dr Deller said.

“Although the additional works to relocate the Telstra assets have caused some time delays and cost, I am pleased to say that this stage of the project will be finished, and the entire area cleaned up in time for the busy Christmas and school holiday period.”

The Rushworth Streetscape project comprises of six stages and includes the replacement of sealed infrastructure such as medians, footpaths, drainage and streetscapes on both sides of High Street, from Moora Road to Wigg Street.

Stage 3 works, currently underway on the eastern side, south of the railway line, include:

  • kerb and channel works
  • footpath works, including the upgrade and relocation of Telstra assets
  • roadway reinstatement works
  • completion of pedestrian islands to centre median and eastern roadway
  • car park line marking and associated signage
  • tree planting and landscaping works.

The ambitious project was originally to see all six stages completed as one project. Due to the additional works and time delays resulting from the need to relocate the Telstra assets, Council has taken the decision to halt the project after stage 3 works are complete.

Works on the western side of High Street were expected to follow on directly after stage 3. However, to accommodate changes in the project scope arising from the now known need to relocate and lower the depth of the Telstra assets within the western footpath construction zone, Council will re-tender for the works following further detailed investigation, design and consultation with the community.

“Council is committed to continuing to work with the community to complete this important streetscape project and minimising any impacts on the community during the construction period,” Dr Deller said.
