Construction of a new community park is set to commence at Ryans Reserve in Diamond Creek this May.
Ryans Reserve is located at Broad Gully Road, Diamond Creek and will be rejuvenated to create a new community park with $1.19 million of funding via the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, and Council contribution of $362,000.
The revamped Reserve will cater for more diverse groups of users and provide opportunities for all ages and abilities to participate.
The comprehensive works include:
- Construction of a new shade sail over the new playground
- Improvements to existing playground area, including a custom playground tower, inclusive spinner, triple swing set, sensory play equipment, in-ground trampolines and exercise equipment.
- All access electric BBQ
- Construction of new public toilets
- Construction of new interconnecting paths
- Drainage improvements throughout
- Associated landscaping.
Nillumbik Deputy Mayor Karen Egan said the upgrade was an exciting project that aimed to provide recreational space, leisure and sports opportunities for all ages and abilities.
“The new park provides something for everyone in the community to enjoy. It combines opportunities for physical play such as the new playground, as well as spaces for passive play and social connection, including as a sensory play quiet area and picnic shelters,” Cr Egan said.
Ellis Ward Councillor, Peter Perkins said he was thrilled to see construction commence on the new recreational space for Diamond Creek.
“Ryans Reserve is a fantastic open space, used by many families and now it will be accessible for even more local families to enjoy,” Cr Perkins said.
Both councillors thanked the community who took the time to provide feedback on the draft designs last year.
Construction will be completed in late 2024.
