SA budget: ACEM welcomes health focus, workforce sustainability is key

When appropriately delivered and resourced, this significant investment will help reduce pressure on struggling hospital systems, and contribute towards the provision of a better, fairer health system for the people of South Australia.

The College urges the Government to ensure that all funding is delivered with a simultaneous focus on ensuring appropriate and sustainable workforce resourcing, and that continued engagement with frontline clinicians on implementing solutions to hospital overcrowding must underpin investments.

ACEM South Australian Chair Dr Michael Edmonds thanked the South Australian Government for delivering on their pre-electoral health pledges and committed to supporting the Minister for Health and Wellbeing, The Honorable Chris Picton MP, and other key health stakeholders, in the next steps forward.

Dr Edmonds said, “The Malinauskas Government listened to healthcare workers, campaigned on a health platform, and won the 2022 state election. Our next question was, will they deliver on their promises? The health focus of the 2022 budget shows that they’re willing to invest to achieve these outcomes.”

“South Australian emergency doctors welcome the $2.4 billion investment into health and stand ready to work with the Government to co-create a health system that truly meets the needs of South Australians, and the healthcare workers that work within it.”
