The community of Finley will soon have greater access to safe, secure and reliable water with construction now underway on a $6.6 million upgrade to its water treatment plant.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the project would significantly overhaul the existing 80-year-old plant to deliver modernised infrastructure to better support the town’s water supply needs.
“Every resident in NSW has a right to clean drinking water and this project will ensure we continue to deliver safe and reliable water services for the Finley community, businesses and visitors,” Mr Toole said.
“The existing water treatment plant was built in 1940 and is approaching the end of its operating life, which is why this upgrade is a priority.
“By working with Berrigan Shire Council to co-fund the upgrade, we’re ensuring the community will continue to have access to high quality drinking water for decades to come.”
Minister for Lands and Water Kevin Anderson said the upgraded water treatment plant will be equipped to support population and business growth.
“We’re investing in this infrastructure to ensure Finley has greater water security as well as the services necessary for future housing and business development,” Mr Anderson said.
“Important infrastructure like water treatment plants are crucial to enabling our towns and cities to expand and flourish.”
Berrigan Shire Council Mayor Matthew Hannan said the project includes upgrades to the automation and control systems which will allow the plant to be monitored and controlled remotely, reducing operating costs and making the system more efficient.
“We’re pleased this joint investment with the NSW Government will put new infrastructure in place to enable us to continue to deliver clean drinking water to Finley’s more than 2500 residents,” Mr Hannan said.
Construction is expected to be completed by mid 2023.
The project is being delivered thanks to $4 million from the NSW Government’s $1 billion Safe and Secure Water Program and $2.67 million from Berrigan Shire Council.
