Safer Communities: Plenty on Offer in School Holiday Program to Entertain Territory Kids

Territory kids from the Top End down to Central Australia have plenty of choice to keep them entertained these school holidays, with nearly 300 activities and events on offer.

The Territory Labor Government’s September-October 2020 school holiday program gives young children and their families the opportunity to get out into their communities and engage in fun, youth-friendly activities.

The program provides a variety of choice for children of all ages, from sports to arts and crafts, horse riding, mystery tours, big breakfasts and movie nights.

Highlights of the September-October school holiday program include:

  • Darwin has more than 90 diverse and engaging activities including a huge pool party, gymnastics day camps, sports including volleyball, football, basketball and squash, arts and crafts, yoga and hip hop and jewellery making classes and a BBQ at Lake Alexander.
  • Palmerston has more than 60 activities including a Big Breakfast, sports, Urban Jam, Young Mulligas and Cudgeries and an excursion to King Pin.
  • Alice Springs will offer more than 50 activities, including Movies at the Cinema, Get Out activities, the Youth Skate Park Festival 2020, and activities at the GAP and Brown Street Youth Centres.
  • Tennant Creek/Barkly has around 17 activities including arts and crafts, sports, cooking classes, pool days, excursions, movie nights and loads of fun activities and events at Youthlinx.
  • Katherine will have more than 50 activities to choose from, including dance workshops, Nitmiluk Gorge Tours, Muay Thai, pool open day, and arts and crafts.
  • East Arnhem covers 33,000 square kilometres and have more than 15 activities happening in communities across the region, including pool days, sports carnivals, and basketball clinics.

“The Territory Labor Government is investing in school holiday programs so communities can offer a diverse range of educational and fun activities to keep kids busy and engaged.

“There are nearly 300 school holiday activities on offer that will not only keep kids entertained but also give at-risk young people a safe space to hang out together.

“We are proudly supporting local Territory organisations, community groups and local government to deliver youth services.”
