The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading the intersection of Jasper Road and Brewer Road in Bentleigh, investing in improving safety and traffic flow.
The Bentleigh community will get their first look at designs for upgrades to the intersection at local information sessions to be held next month.
Concept designs will be shared before broader community engagement in July for the upcoming works to provide safer and easier access to nearby schools, aged care facilities and recreational spaces.
The intersection will receive new traffic lights with pedestrian crossings, and Brewer Road will be widened to provide right and left turning lanes, reducing congestion for drivers.
The new traffic lights will also allow drivers to safely turn from Brewer Road onto Jasper Road and improve the experience for drivers turning onto Higgins Road.
Bicycle riders will benefit from new green pavement to clearly mark bicycle lanes, as well as bicycle waiting boxes and road surface improvements to provide a safer and smoother ride.
The Labor Government is investing $5 million to deliver these important upgrades, with the lights operating in 2023.
As stated by Minister for Roads and Road Safety Ben Carroll
“We’re upgrading the intersection of Jasper Road and Brewer Road to improve traffic flow around Bentleigh and make it safer for drivers along the busy Jasper Road corridor.”
“We’re protecting our most vulnerable road users, with pedestrian crossings improving access to local schools, aged care facilities and other important amenities.”
As stated by Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos
“We know just how busy this intersection can get, which is why we are investing in an upgrade to ensure improved traffic flow and smoother journeys for all road users.”
“Upgrading these traffic signals will ensure drivers, pedestrians and bike riders can safely travel through this intersection, especially turning onto Jasper Road.”
