Rockhampton Regional Council is inviting residents in Mount Morgan to come along to a free sausage sizzle and bushfire awareness session this Saturday 18 June from 10.30am – 1.30pm at No. 7 Dam.
Rockhampton Region Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group Tony Williams said the information session will ensure that everyone knows what actions they should take when a bushfire approaches and what should be done now to prepare for the next fire season.
“It will be an ideal opportunity for residents to brush up on their preparedness and planning for the bushfire season ahead,” Mayor Williams said.
“The rainfall we have had in recent months has been enough to stimulate fuel growth and it is important people understand that this often means there will be a higher window of opportunity for fires to start.
“I encourage the community to act now with their fire preparations rather than putting it off until a bushfire is imminent.
“Bushfires can put people’s lives and property at risk, and I strongly urge all Mount Morgan residents to attend and learn how to correctly prepare for some of the year’s most dangerous months.
“Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) will be there on Saturday to discuss any queries that residents may have on bushfire preparations, including guidance on and the development of personal bushfire survival plans.
“Council’s Disaster Management team will also be on hand with resources from our Disaster Management Trailer, including everything you need to know about preparing your Emergency Kit.”
