- 17 Great Southern towns eligible for Showerhead Swap, and/or Weather-based Irrigation Controller and/or Plumbing Service Rebates
- All Great Southern scheme water customers also eligible for Rainwater Tank Rebate and Dual Flush Toilet Rebate
- Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program to reach record 56 regional towns
- Supports regional households to save precious water and reduce bills
- Program focuses on towns reliant on independent surface and groundwater sources
Waterwise offers are now available to eligible residents in 17 Great Southern towns, helping save valuable drinking water in the lead up to another hot, dry summer.
Water Corporation’s Waterwise TownsProgram has this year expanded to a record 56 regional communities where independent surface and groundwater sources are most at risk of the impacts of climate change.
Water Minister Simone McGurk announced the tailored water efficiency measures today, as part of ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Water Week, which runs until 27 October.
In 2023-24, participating Great Southern communities saved around 26 million litres of water through a range of residential and non-residential water efficiency activities.
Almost 9,500 households in Albany and Esperance received waterwise comparative-use letters, 490 households swapped showerheads for new water efficient ones, and 48 Rainwater Tank Rebates were claimed.
This year, Water Corporation customers in each eligible Great Southern community can exchange two old, inefficient showerheads for waterwise alternatives under the free Showerhead Swap program.
Residents in Hopetoun, Ravensthorpe, and Munglinup can also register for a free plumbing service, while residents in Albany are eligible for a $300 rebate on a weather-based irrigation controller.
For the first time, all Water Corporation scheme water customers in the Great Southern – including those in communities not participating in the Waterwise Towns Program – will also be eligible for rebates to purchase:
- a new rainwater tank, or to plumb in or replace an existing tank; and
- to replace a single flush toilet with a waterwise dual flush toilet.
Available from mid-November, this offer is in response to heightened demand on water supplies following an extended hot, dry summer earlier this year.
Since 2013, the Waterwise Towns Program has saved 1.9 billion litres of drinking water State-wide, contributing to the long-term sustainability of Western Australia’s most vital resource.
Plumbing Services are limited, with registrations open until 1 May 2025, unless allocations are exhausted earlier. Weather-based Irrigation Controller Rebates are a limited offer and only available for purchases made between 1 October 2024 and 31 May 2025 until allocations are exhausted. Showerhead Swap is available until31 May 2025, while stocks last.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Simone McGurk:
“Water Corporation’s Waterwise Towns Program not only helps residents save on their water bills but also plays a crucial role in preserving water resources in parts of regional WA where drinking water sources are most constrained.
“We know climate change presents real challenges, particularly on traditional ground and surface water sources, and programs like this are key to helping us adapt and build resilience in our water schemes.
“In its 11th year, the program has saved an impressive 1.9 billion litres of water or around 856 Olympic-sized swimming pools. I encourage communities in this year’s program to take advantage of the available offers and continue to build on these savings.”
Comments attributed to Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:
“The water savings we’ve seen in Albany and across the Great Southern in the last year alone show how important our local community’s role is when it comes to protecting our drinking water supply.
“By participating in programs like the free Showerhead Swap and Rainwater Tank Rebates, our local communities can make a big difference.”
