Five incredible Territory women have been awarded 2022 Minister for Women’s Scholarships, giving them access to fantastic higher education and training opportunities to advance their skillsets and careers.
The scholarships are administered by Charles Darwin University (CDU), with all of the inspirational winners pursuing higher education or vocational education and training (VET) opportunities with the university.
One of the most important aspects of advocating for women in the equality and inclusion space is to ensure we are providing opportunities for long-term economic security and enhancing access to employment opportunities.
There is no better way to enhance employment and economic security outcomes than to deliver great education and training opportunities.
These scholarships, worth $15,000 each for the higher education and Science, Information Technology and Engineering scholarships and $5,000 each for the three VET scholarships, one in non-traditional trades, open doors for women to enter into traditionally male-dominated industries, and those that traditionally have higher earning capacity.
Northern Territory Minister for Equality and Inclusion, Lauren Moss was proud to recognise the five scholarship winners at an awards ceremony on Friday evening. There were more than 180 applicants, with the five scholarships going to:
Jillian Wong – Higher Education Scholarship;Laiba Suhail – Science, Information Technology and Engineering Higher Education Scholarship;Amy Schembri – VET Scholarship;Carmen Ansaldo – VET Scholarship;Shanae Kuo – Non-traditional trades VET Scholarship.
The Minister for Equality and Inclusion was Minister for Women when this year’s scholarships were launched and will retain responsibility for women’s policy within the broader equality and inclusion portfolio.
