Scholarships for regional students now available

More than 1,000 eligible students from regional and remote Australia will have access to a scholarship worth up to $18,000 to support their tertiary education in 2022.

Applications for Round 6 of the Rural and Regional Enterprise Scholarships (RRES) program open today.

Minister for Regionalisation, Regional Communications and Regional Education, Senator the Hon Bridget McKenzie said the scholarships support students to undertake courses from Certificate IV to PhD level.

“Since 2018, these scholarships have helped support more than 4,000 regional and remote students to access a tertiary education,” Minister McKenzie said.

“Students will have access to opportunities to further their education regardless of where they live. These scholarships support the cost of tertiary education, aiming to reduce financial stress for regional students and their families

“The Liberal and ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾s Government is committed to reducing the disparity between rural and regional students and their city counterparts, and these scholarships help deliver on that promise.

“I encourage all eligible regional and remote Australians to apply for these scholarships to support them in their higher education,” Minister McKenzie said.

RRES scholarship recipient Dan Jones studied a Masters of Clinical Psychology at the University of Southern Queensland.

“What the scholarship enabled me to do was be able to live on campus comfortably without having to worry too much about the finances,” Mr Jones said.

“Rural and remote students have such a tremendous opportunity to access funding and support to be able to undertake your studies. With this scholarship, there might be things that you can achieve that you didn’t know you would be able to achieve.

“If you are entitled to it, it could make a huge difference to your life and really take the pressure off,” Mr Jones said.

The Australian Government has invested $62.6 million in the RRES program since 2017.
