The Cook Government is supporting the next generation of leading agriculture and food scientists through a new post graduate scholarship program.

Today 23 successful recipients of the inaugural WA Agricultural Research Collaboration Postgraduate Research Scholarships were announced.

The $2.25 million investment is part of the State Government’s $25 million backing for the WA Agricultural Research Collaboration (WAARC), with the support of its three university members: Curtin University, Murdoch University and The University of Western Australia.

The scholarship recipients’ research projects align with northern agriculture, grains transformation, climate resilience, agricultural technologies, Aboriginal science engagement, and capacity building and extension.

Recipients will be supervised by their host university and mentored by leading scientists including from CSIRO, Grower Group Alliance and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

The students’ research will span grains, pastures, livestock, plant pests, rangelands resilience and plants of Aboriginal cultural significance being used for food and medicine.

Multiple universities have come together with the State Government and collaborators to support a postgraduate program that will strengthen research, development and extension across WA’s important agricultural industries.
