Northern Territory Police are questioning the public’s disregard of school zone speed limits.
Nearly five-thousand vehicles were scanned by two speed camera vans situated at different locations across Darwin yesterday.
Superintendent Peter Malley said police issued 133 infringements to vehicles exceeding the speed limit in a school zone.
“Those 133 people actively choose to put their own children, your children and my children all at risk. For what?”
The most ignored zone was Cavenagh Street outside St Mary’s Primary School where 33 infringements were issued out of 313 vehicles checked.
“In April this year, police identified Cavenagh Street as the most ignored zone. I’m not sure why the message isn’t sinking in?”
NT Police will continue to monitor these zones and hold drivers to account.
Mr Malley is urging drivers to slow down before you kill someone.
